Peter Fisk about writing books

2.2.2009   Endrik Randoja
We had a chat with innovation guru Peter Fisk at his Jurmala Customer Genius master-class about how he writes his books. It takes a lot of experience and knowledge but there were some unexpected ingredients in equasion too.

Peter is incredibly productive being able to write two books per year in average, attend public conferences, prepare and present at in-house trainings and keep his informative web site up to date. How does he manage to do that on his own as he does not have a support team and not even a personal assistant? And how he manages to be so productive at writing front? Peter revealed the secret that he does most of his writing during long summer holiday in South Spain where he has a summer place. Neighbouring that place lives his friend who produces ecologically friendly wines. One thing that it means is that this wine is very low on tannins. And tannins are the components in red wine that gives most of us headace and try mouth. This wine does not. So one part of the secret formula in being a productive writer is a long holiday in South Spain and some eco-wine!

Baltic managers are discovering Linked In

8.1.2009   Endrik Randoja
Last week I had a chat with ex-HR manager of Skype, current HR and management consultant for Ambient Sound Investments (ASI) Riina Einberg.  It had occurred to both of us, that Baltic managers have found Linked In and started to use it actively.

Baltic managers who have accounts at Linked In have noticed that during recent months people have been active in updating their accounts and making new contacts. But why Linked In could be beneficial?

According to Riina it is a great tool to post yourself at job market without actually referring that you want to leave your job. You make yourself attractive and available for new challenges. Riina adds that it is interesting to observe how professionals who have left their jobs start actively work on their Linked In accounts.

Second reason why Linked In is becoming more popular is that people start to care about their e-image more. On top of that, it is a great tool to show, whom you are connected to. According to Swedish philosophist Alexander Bard, your relationships determine your value nowadays.

Linked In is also a great place to keep your contacts, look for background information and prepare yourself for meetings by learning about people.

Linked In has invested lately to features that enable people in the net to be more interactive and of help to each other. Linked In appears to be the new environment for lobby and relationship management.

Sampo Bank: learn to walk and talk again

14.1.2009   Endrik Randoja
At preparation meeting for Leaders Forum I got friendly advice from bank people: wait if you want to buy something expensive. Indeed, both real estate and automotive sector makes discounts never seen. But for how long? Estonian VC Veikko Maripuu published yesterday 15 statements that describe 2009.

From these one could draw that at the end of the year the World economy starts to pick up growth again. Sampo Bank general manager in Estonia, Aivar Rehe, stated that businesses have to leadn walk and talk again. That means learning from early years of their businesses: going out to meet clients, presenting actively products and services, searching for alliances. Btw, all this advice came to me at hallway as Aivar Rehe is famous for his "coridor talks and walks". Being actively in touch with own people is art that every manager could learn from Aivar Rehe.

Gurus forcast a difficult year

9.1.2009   Endrik Randoja
Author of "Why should anyone be led by you" and London Business School professor Gareth Jones (at the picture) forecasts difficult year to everyone who are not doing business in Asia.

Nevertheless at Polish Fastleader Leadership Conference afterparty Jones seemed optimistic. "My job is not at risk" said Jones, who had moved up many places at Thinkers 50 list last year. "In current crises still many invest in development and education". Geoff Burch, referred to as an alternative business guru describes current situation with humor: "With the GBP where it is, you rich Estonians could buy all your trainings from English profssors!"

Fastleader.com has new webpage

5.1.2009   Endrik Randoja
The beginning of 2009 killed off the old web-site of Fastleader.com. It served us for 4 years and has now right for retirement. New one, I hope you agree, is nicer and more functional. Although we are happy for our new "face", during these times it is most important to stay in touch with clients and provide meaningful and useful services.

For our new web we owe a big THANKS to ADM who made the design and Frukt who made it all work in the web. It is important to add that the design and technological platform of new web environment took very little time to make. As we are in training business, not web page launching business, this was particularily good news for us.

With new page up and running, our newsletters formerly known as A4 will start again and we will have no mercy on the inboxes of the people who have left us their e-mail addresses for that cause :) Have a great 2009!
